Stop Your Chronic Jaw Pain & Headaches

Woman in dental chair holding cheekDoes your jaw frequently feel stiff and painful? Has it gotten “stuck” while opening or closing? Do you experience chronic headaches or ear aches that medication can’t help? If so, you might be experiencing problems with your TMJ (temporomandibular joint). This is the set of small hinges on your jaw that allows it to move fluidly whenever you speak or eat. Like other joints in the body, they can become strained or injured, and this can lead to a variety of problems called a temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). Dr. Danny Nguyen, Dr. Cindy Hua, and our team are specially trained to both diagnose and treat this issue, and we’ll always keep an eye on it during your regular checkup.

Diagnosis & Treatment

Whenever you come in for a standard appointment, we’ll check on the health of your TMJ. We’ll test your range of motion and ask you if you’ve been experiencing any issues. If so, we’ll work to find the exact cause. Sometimes, TMD can be brought on by stress, injury, or issues with the teeth, and they all require a certain course of treatment. This may involve simple exercises to stretch and relax the muscles or a couple of treatments we can provide you right in our office.

Equilibration / Occlusal Adjustments

TMD can sometimes cause the teeth to not come together correctly, and this often places a lot a pressure on just a few of them (which can be very painful). To correct this issue, we’ll perform something called an equilibration/occlusal adjustment. We’ll take an impression of your teeth, find the pressure spots, and gently reshape them so that they come together smoothly. Often, this only requires us to remove a few millimeters of enamel.

Botox Injections

Botox has actually been used for years as a method to treat TMD and eliminate the pain associated with it. Once it has been applied, it prevents the agitated jaw muscles from clenching and straining, allowing them to settle and heal. Much like the cosmetic treatment, Botox will be painlessly injected into the affected muscles, and the relief will be practically instant. The treatment itself only takes about 10 minutes, but the results can easily last for several months.

If you’ve been dealing with a painful jaw or chronic headaches and can’t seem to find relief, then the team at Eco Dental can help. Don’t suffer any longer, and contact our office today for an appointment.
